The Weekend Starts Now will post 45-minute episodes every week for 12 weeks, from June 4 through August 20.

Each episode will be taped live in front of an audience at The Ox tap room at Indeed Brewing Company.

This highly topical podcast will feature local guests from the food, music, and arts communities and feature hosts with deep roots in the local scene: Taylor Carik (Secrets of the City) and James Norton (Heavy Table and regular contributions to Minnesota Monthly and MPR.) Carik and Norton collaborated on more than 120 episodes of a podcast called Flak Radio along with audio engineer Adam Voreis.

 

TAYLOR CARIK co-hosts The Weekend Starts Now. He’s the publisher of Secrets of the City, a Twin Cities-based newsletter used by thousands of readers to stay in the loop on arts and culture happenings throughout the cities. Along with James Norton, Carik previously co-hosted the Flak Radio podcast for which they were finalists for a regional Emmy in 2008. He’s previously worked at Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, KARE11 Television, and co-founded BringMeTheNews and the annual Zombie Pub Crawl. He also leads the sleazy rock band Whiskey Rock ‘n’ Roll Club.

JAMES NORTON co-hosts The Weekend Starts Now. He’s the editor of The Heavy Table, a daily online journal of food and drink in the Upper Midwest named named “Best Website” by City Pages readers for five years running. He has written numerous books about food including “The Master Cheesemakers of Wisconsin” and “Lake Superior Flavors.” Norton is a regular contributor to Minnesota Public Radio, WCCO news radio, and the Current and has worked as a radio producer for The Al Franken Show, a Middle East news editor for The Christian Science Monitor, and as a pop food reviewer for CHOW.com.

ADAM VOREIS is an audio engineer, production manager and A/V integrator. He has worked all over the Twin Cities for the better part of a decade twisting knobs, and pushing faders in various clubs, theaters and any other place a person could think of putting a sound system. Currently, he holds the rank of Master Chief at Twin Cities Sound. Duties include the overseeing of staffing and technical services and client support. Voreis is dedicated to technical theater education and the training of student designers and stagehands. He met Norton and Carik while working on Flak Radio in 2008.
